Newly Approved Projects
The following countries have received approval by the Forest Investment Program Sub-committee.
DGM Cote D’Ivoire
DGM Cote d’Ivoire’s objective is to strengthen the capacity of targeted local communities to participate in REDD+ processes at the local, national, and global levels.
The project became effective in August 2020 and over the past year centered its efforts on establishing the project by developing programmatic documents, scoping sites for implementation and the selection of intervention villages, conducting the project’s first NSC meeting, and raising awareness of the project’s overall objective.
Significant progress was made during this time despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 restrictions.
In the coming year DGM Cote d’Ivoire plans to organize awareness campaigns on the DGM, carry out capacity building, develop awareness tools, finalize programmatic documents, host NSC meetings, and organize a pre-selection meeting of subprojects.

DGM Guatemala
DGM Guatemala is one of the latest DGM countries to receive FIP SC and World Bank approval. The project’s objective is to strengthen the capacity of, and benefits gained by, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in their role in sustainable forest and natural resource management.
It seeks to support activities to advance the recognition of traditional and collective IPLCs’ forest management systems within Guatemala’s broader forest conservation initiatives and invest in IPLCs’ priorities to improve enabling conditions for forest stewardship.
DGM Guatemala will also facilitate IPLCs’ participation in relevant climate change or REDD+ dialogues and support their forest-related productive and food security activities.
Over the past year, DGM Guatemala selected Sotz’il Association as the project’s National Executing Agency (NEA). Since receiving World Bank approval, DGM Guatemala nominated a GSC member, and worked to finalize programmatic documents and kick-off activities with the NSC and NEA. As the project began implementation, an exchange was held with the DGM GEA to exchange knowledge and share lessons learned compiled from active DGM countries pertaining to subproject selection processes and criteria, communications, global governance, participation in international climate events, and other relevant matters.
